Bon Fire Night or Guy Fawkes Night marks the occasion nearly 400 years ago when Guy Fawkes and his fellow plotters were foiled in their attempt to blow up Parliament. Across the country ‘Guys’ are burned on huge bonfires and hundreds of fireworks are set off.
There’s no better place to experience Bonfire Night than London: fireworks displays abound offering a perfect opportunity for family enjoyment.
Thousands turn out for the public fireworks displays which attempt to outdo one another in scale and sophistication.
Some of the best London fireworks displays include Alexandra Palace Fireworks Display, Battersea Park Fireworks Display, Bishops Park Fireworks Display, Blackheath Fireworks Display, Brockwell Park Fireworks Display, Hampton Court Fireworks Display, Kingston Fireworks Display, Lord Mayors Show London, Victoria Park Fireworks Display among others.
In addition, children make a 'Guy' from old clothes stuffed with newspaper and a paper/material head which they plan to burn on a bonfire on November 5th. They try to collect money by wheeling the 'Guy' around in a pram or wheelbarrow asking for "a penny for the Guy". Adults give money depending on how good the 'Guy' looks.
If you are in London during Guy Fawkes Night then it’d best if you plan your trip in advance so that you can catch an organized fireworks display in one of the places mentioned above.
