About Covent Garden and Street Performers

Are you thinking of squeezing a day of shopping, entertainment and dinning into your schedule of the London tour? Wouldn't it be splendid, if there is one venue that gives you all these? Indeed it would be, also with the perk of saving time to explore another venue. The Covent Garden is indeed a Piazza made in the Italian Style, packed with everything you need for a delightful day.

Covent Garden is a London district, bordering High Holborn, Kingsway, The Strand and Charring Cross. This was a land of an old Benedictine Convent and hence the name “Covent Garden”. King Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries and later gave this land to the Bedford family; whose idea was to construct the Covent Garden Piazza. It was then used as the food and flower wholesale market since the 1500s until 1974. This land is one of the areas in England that has been continually inhabited for nearly 2000 years. Hence, the Covent Garden has an interesting and curious legend, which must be one reason that it attracts a staggering 30 million tourist annually!

This Garden contemporarily is packed with restaurants, boutiques, bars, branded shops, galleries, theatres, street performers, cafes, arts, crafts and also the Royal Opera House. It is the only area that is licensed in London, to provide street entertaining! Thus, many artists from around the world come here, enabling the spectators to have a wide variety of culture. The eat outs are designed so that you have a great view of the performers, while enjoying your meal.

It indeed, is going to be a memorable visit!

Location

The closest tube stations to get here is the Covent Garden station. It would be advisable to opt to other stations like Leicester Square, Holborn, Charring Cross and Temple and walk the few meters when it gets crowded. You could also take the bus, train, boat and any other usual modes of transport.
