About Kenwood House

The Kenwood House, also knows as the Iveagh Bequest is located in the outskirts of Hampstead Heath, one of London’s most green areas. The House has a land area of 112 acres, stretching to a lake with distant views of the busy London. It indeed is a unique experience, allowing you to have a taste of the English countryside with its panoramic peaceful landscapes, in the background of the busy London City!

This House has been in existence from 1616 and was owned by the Lord of Mansfield since 1754, who commissioned the redesigning of it to the present magnificent Kenwood House. The exquisite remodelling including interiors, that you see when you visit the House today, belongs to Robert Adam and William Murray. Down the line of the Mansfield generations until 1920, some extensions were added to the House. In 1925, this was bought by the 1st Earl of Iveagh, whereupon he housed his personal exclusive collection of paintings here. On his death in 1927, he left all his paintings and the Kenwood House to the Nation trustees and is now run by the English Heritage.

The estate was originally designed by Humphry Repton, but presently comprises of a new garden by Arabella Lennox-Boyd and sculptures by various artists. These gardens seem to attract quite many birds and insects! You could also go for the concerts held at the lake side, in summers. Then, the Kenwood House is the right place for as perfect a day!

Admission to the Kenwood is free! It opens from 11.00am-5.00pm in April-October and 11.00am-4.00pm in November-March, but is closed during Christmas and New Year. The tubes to get to Kenwood House are Archway and Golders Green and the bus no. 210 also will bring you here.
