Kings College London

About Kings College London

King's College London is also constituent college of the University of London in the United Kingdom. The college was founded by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington in 1829. King's has a strong academic reputation, and in 2009 was ranked 6th in the UK. Its degree courses in History, Politics, Philosophy, Classics, Music, Dentistry and Law are especially strong, often ranking in the top 5 of national academic league tables. The university was founded by groups not aligned with the Anglican Church particular in response to the religious nature of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge which are the only two that predate Kings College. The college allowed free entry to non-conformists of all sorts, and had a similar syllabus structure to Oxford.

The University is made up of 5 campuses spread throughout London. It is just coming out of a decade of refurbishment costing over £550 million.

King's College London Students' Union (KCLSU) is the oldest student union in London, and provides a good range of activities and services: over 50 sports clubs, 60 societies, a wide range of volunteering opportunities, 2 bars, 2 nightclubs, shops, eating places and a gym.

The College today is the product of mergers with a number of other institutions over the years, resulting in nine schools of study and since 2003 has been able to award degrees through its own merit and not through the University of London
